Updating with Respect: The Rebirth of a Landmark in the Bassa Parmense Region.
This project was one of the most important of 2025 for us. We worked on a historic building deeply tied to the noble Soragna Meli Lupi family, originally established in 1783 as a post house for changing horses and heavily used during the Napoleonic era.
The goal of our intervention was to introduce high visual comfort, energy-efficient light sources without leaving scars on the historical ceilings or frescoed walls, respecting the heritage spaces while emphasizing their timeless beauty.

Before the intervention
Before the lighting redesign, the hotel featured a setup dating back to the 1970s, characterized by massive energy consumption, low efficiency, uneven illumination, and inconsistent color temperatures that failed to meet minimum EN standards.
After the intervention
Thanks to our project, the guest rooms now offer superior visual comfort alongside careful energy management. Light is delivered precisely where needed while maintaining a balanced, discreet ambient output throughout—all achieved with absolute respect for the building’s architecture.

Context and Requirements
From our very first meeting with the client, it was clear that non-invasive techniques were essential: minimizing masonry chasing was paramount for the surveyor, local authorities, and the Fine Arts Authority (Beni Culturali), who were involved at every stage of the project. Using Dialux, we conducted in-depth studies of all possible lighting scenarios.

Lighting Concept
We focused our design efforts on subtly illuminating the building’s classical architecture without altering its structure, gracefully honoring a venue with nearly 250 years of history to tell. Both the architectural and decorative lighting solutions do not shout their presence; instead, they respect the space around them.

The Solution
To achieve these outcomes, we experimented with multiple approaches. Working with various manufacturers and custom-tailored solutions, we crafted a contemporary result that avoids short-lived trends. Where possible, we integrated additional functionality—such as sound absorption in select rooms—opting for versatile systems that can evolve alongside the building.

Final Result
The result is a project that speaks a coherent visual language throughout the entire property, adding elegance and depth to a structure already rich in character. An architecture of light designed to highlight every detail, the atmosphere now honors its legendary past while warmly welcoming the future, perfectly suited to illuminate the next chapter of Locanda del Lupo in an evocative and effective way.
